CLARITY OF FORM FUNCTIONAL USE & QUALITY OF MATERIALS

For me the fusion of modern furnrniture designs (vintage or current) collaborate as independent art forms to cause effect and create environments that nourish the soul! So much for my daily parable.

For example: a donald judd green anodized aluminum wall sculpture balanced by a vintage knoll armless sofa, further complimented by a woven leather Milana chair by jean nouvel for sawaya & moroni and a satin brushed stainless steel/glass cocktail table by Poul Kjaerholm for Fritz Hansen. Examining each form you can appreciate the aesthetic & genius behind the designs from many angles/views.

Certainly a marked comparison to a space furnished say with predominantly one designer brand like I recently viewed in John Mayer's NYC digs. For the record I am a BIG fan of JM and his music, yet when I saw the feature in the current Elle Decor magazine, a publication I do feel captures worthy decors for the most part, I was a bit surprised at the uniformity of selection throughout the space. I realize we all have different tastes and that's what makes horse racing.

The clarity of form, the quality of materials and functional use of select modern designs (the title of today's blog) says it all! Whether from influential masters like mies van der rohe, le corbusier, marcel breuer, and walter gropius or other iconic designers like arne jacobsen, eero saarinen, alvar aalto, achille castiglioni, marco zanuso, tom dixon, piero lissoni, antonio citterio, joe colombo, humberto & fernando campana these designs are truly art forms and communicate to those that inhabit the space they occupy. It sounds a bit daft but it happens.

So next time you're considering furnishing an urban dwelling (apt or townhouse), country house, or beach cottage consider blending vintage and current modern designs and see what i truly mean by them nourishing the soul.
